The Unity Candle Ceremony is a traditional part of the wedding ceremony. For the unknowing, the unity candle service consists of a candelabra holding three candles. The outside candles are lit by the mother’s representing this couple’s lives. Their flames represent the faith, wisdom and love received from their parents and friends. Lighting the center candle symbolizes the union of their lives. Their thoughts shall be for each other, they will share joy and sorrow. The two other flames remain lit to show how although they are now one, they are still each unique individuals.

The children of the Bride and Groom that will be living with them will be included in the ceremony so they will feel a vital part of their marriage. We will ask the Bride and Groom to agree with and repeat to their children the following: Will you always to the very best of your ability, provide for these children a home that’s filled with your love, respect, caring and happiness? Will you promise to encourage and nurture their spiritual, mental, social, and physical growth and development so they may grow up to be the best they can be?---If so please answer “we will.” Please turn and face your children and repeat after me. I make these promises lovingly and freely...and vow to honor them all the days of my life.
